Harvard College Class of 2022, Computer Science and Integrative Biology
Shavonna is a student in the class of 2022 at Harvard College studying Computer Science and Integrative Biology (Class of '22). She is very interested in the intersection between biology and computer science, and using computational analysis to help push the field of biological research further. In addition to this, she loves to use her skills to contribute to social justice projects, as she is currently working with The Monument Project for this very reason. She is currently the Co-President of Harvard's Women in Science @ Harvard - Radcliffe club, and is working at Nandita Garud's Lab focused in metagenomic analyses using computational biology. She was born and raised in Carson, California. In her free time, she loves to immerse herself into her creative side, taking photos, practicing graphic design, and even trying her hand at digital illustration.
Accomplishments on the ASPT:
Analyzed videos from the Cambridge Summit to contribute to the MIT Report
Heavily involved in the planning of the Stanford Summit
Created and filled many Faculty Forms in preparation for attendance of the Summit and later conferences
Regularly updated and maintained the Youtube page for the Cambridge Summit, ensuring each video had an accurate description, clear and flattering Thumbnail, etc.
Volunteered at the Cambridge Summit as a Photographer
Accomplishments since the ASPT:
Worked alongisde Rati Thanawala to help create a program aimed at uplifting Women of Color in Tech, allowing them to break industry barriers limiting their success
Used Machine Learning to discern whether or not disease can be predicted with metagenomic microbiome data
Created designs using Adobe Creative Suite and built upon other creative skills by repurposing them for Education in the Bok Center
Accepting as a Teaching Assistant for Harvard's Introductory CS Class
